The Mamiya Medical Heritage Center, located in the Hawaii Medical Library, was established in July 1999 by Richard T. Mamiya, MD. The Center houses the archives, medical museum, and special collections of the Library, consisting of over 4,000 volumes of rare and special collections books, over 10,000 photographs, over 200 medical instruments, and approximately 200 linear feet of records and personal papers.
The Hawaii Medical Library, established in 1913, is located in downtown Honolulu on the grounds of The Queen's Medical Center and is a department of QMC.
The Center is dedicated to collecting, organizing, preserving and providing access to resources documenting the history of medicine in Hawaii.
History of Medicine Special Collections
This collection contains primary and secondary sources relevant to the study of the history of medicine.Rare Book Collection
This collection contains rare books and published titles dating prior to 1901. The Library has one of the few copies of Gerrit Parmele Judds Anatomia, the first medical book in Hawaiian, published in 1838.
Margery G. Hastert Collection
The collection, housed in the Queens Historical Room at The Queens Medical Center, contains photographs, reports, letters, books, artifacts and other memorabilia about Queen's.
Medical Artifacts & Instruments
Oral Histories
This collection contains videotaped interviews with Hawaii physicians and other health professionals.
Photograph Collection
Physicians File
The collection consists of over 2500 files on individual physicians who have practiced in Hawaii. These files contain photographs, newspaper clippings, and membership cards of the Honolulu County Medical Society or the Hawaii Medical Association.
The Center welcomes donations of historically significant materials related to the history of medicine in Hawaii. For further information about making a donation, please contact the Center.

The Centers homepage provides access to transcriptions of many original materials, including biographies and minutes.
Reference Services
A librarian is available to assist patrons in locating information and resources.
Reproduction Services
Some materials may be reproduced for a fee.
Patrons are not permitted to use their own copying equipment, scanners or
cameras. Photocopies of archival material will be made by the library staff.
